Biography

With an experience of over 22 years in IT, coupled with a strong educational background in Computing, Dr. Al-Aama’s goal is to participate in the technological advancement of her country, Saudi Arabia. As Vice Mayor for IT, she is the first women to hold a leadership role in IT in a non-academic Saudi governmental agency. Her work has resulted in the Municipality winning 14 prestigious awards in IT including Best Arab e-Government from the Arab League. She also holds the position of Vice Mayor for Women Affairs, in which she pursues her second personal goal, namely: empowering Saudi women. In this role, Al-Aama opened up new job opportunities to women in municipal services in the Kingdom and is responsible for improving the quality of municipal services provided to women. She has also been the first female Vice Dean for a Computing College in the Kingdom and an IT consultant for the international conglomerate Savola. Al-Aama also holds a position as Associate Professor of Computer Science at KAU.
Al-Aama received her MSc. and DSc. in Computer Science from the George Washington University and has published several scientific papers. She was also awarded several research grants in the US and Saudi and has won several awards, including a US-based Microsoft international research award, a national achievement award from the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology and the Microsoft Arabia Most Distinguished Faculty Member Award.
Dr. Al-Aama is also a member of several scientific committees and work groups, including the Executive Committee for the Saudi National eGovernment Plan and the Saudi National Science and Technology Plan.
