Smarter Cities: The next generation

Smarter Cities – and the city operations aspect of it – has been around for more than 10 years. IBM has led the way in developing the smarter cities market. City governments around the world remain under an enormous pressure to deliver value to citizens, in light of a number of issues and it is getting just more complicated.
Whatever the infrastructure challenge, it has become evident that the conventional methods for financing construction, maintenance, and city services are not working anymore. Building bigger, better, faster, more reliable infrastructure and automate it is no longer enough.
While government challenges are exacerbating, the private sector has found creative solutions to carve value out of its infrastructure and operations. Leading government agencies and city governments are starting to take their cues from these companies. Slowly but surely we are seeing a paradigm change emerging. Successful city transformation projects share commonalities such as involving all ecosystem parties early on. In this presentation, I will describe how this approach can be the foundation for not just smarter cities but better ones.
